Future International Research Projects in Latin America, India to Be Highlighted at Upcoming Wild Alaska Pollock Annual Meeting

SEATTLE, Wash.— Market development work in Brazil, Colombia and India, among other foreign markets, will continue in earnest thanks to significant federal research and promotion grants awarded earlier this year to the Association of Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP). The first stage of the work, market research in the three distinct markets, will be presented at the upcoming Wild Alaska Pollock Annual Meeting, set for September 18 at the W Hotel Seattle.
“We know that some of our largest members are active—or starting to become active—in these markets and they represent a huge growth opportunity for our industry,” said Craig Morris, GAPP Chief Executive Officer. “Thanks to these significant grants from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) we are able to conduct foundational research that identifies the barriers our members hear most about and, most critically, how we as an industry can overcome them through marketing, education or outreach.”
Dr. Craig Morris, GAPP CEO, will present an overview of the research projects to be conducted in Brazil, Colombia and India. Additionally, Leonardo Silveira of River Global, a market research consultancy based in Brazil with extensive experience in commodity promotion will also speak and share insights into the Latin American markets and the future for Wild Alaska Pollock. USDA grant officials have also confirmed their attendance at the meeting to interact with attendees and answer any questions.
“International market expansion is key to our industry’s long-term success which is why it’s always been such a key component of GAPP’s strategy,” said Morris. “We are excited to continue to partner with the USDA and our members who are paving the way in new markets for Wild Alaska Pollock in all its forms. I’m eager to share what we know now, and what we hope to learn on September 18.”
The W Hotel in downtown Seattle will play host to the annual meeting for the second consecutive year. The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m., with an evening networking reception to immediately follow. Full registration and heavily discounted lodging information for the W Hotel is available here for those wishing to attend the Wild Alaska Pollock Annual Meeting. GAPP's annual meeting is exclusively for those connected to the Wild Alaska Pollock industry, and registration is subject to GAPP approval.
