Kids Love Alaska Fish Tacos!

The Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP) are currently working in major whitefish markets worldwide to promote Genuine Alaska Pollock.  The organization’s efforts are targeted in Europe, Japan and North America and feature pollock fillets, blocks, and surimi products.  Completed promotions are listed below.  Additional promotions are also in process.

North America

School Nutrition Program
– GAPP members believe that school children would enjoy seafood more if better quality seafood were available in American schools.  GAPP is working to develop kid-tested menu items featuring top-quality once-frozen Genuine Alaska Pollock for introduction to schools throughout the country.  The program will also educate school foodservice directors to ask for Genuine Alaska Pollock and to look for the GAPP logo on the products they buy.  A new audit program will ensure that the GAPP logo is only applied to single-frozen Genuine Alaska Pollock.

Europe

Davigel
– A project to expand the exposure for Genuine Alaska Pollock among the customers of France’s largest foodservice distribution company is being conducted throughout 2005.  The project began by educating the sales leaders on the Davigel team about Genuine Alaska Pollock.  The insight they gained has been used throughout their sales and training materials, equipping Davigel’s 600 sales people with information about the benefits of Genuine Alaska Pollock.  Special promotions of once-frozen Genuine Alaska Pollock will be conducted throughout the year, and product information will be distributed to customers though a video, price lists, nutrition newsletters and a special nutrition promotion.

Japan

Kanetetsu Delica Foods Co., Ltd. – In May, June and July 2005, GAPP supported two promotions featuring the Kanetetsu’s new formulated kanikama product, which features Genuine Alaska Pollock surimi as the primary ingredient.  The promotion included in-store promotions, newspaper and radio advertising.  Product packaging features the GAPP logo to emphasize the Genuine Alaska Pollock content and benefits.

Mizuno Suisan Co., Ltd. – This promotion was designed to increase awareness for the Genuine Alaska Pollock content in the Mizuno’s agekama gift items.  GAPP supported the development of special product labels which feature the GAPP logo and benefit messages.  Supporting in-store promotions were conducted in June and July 2005.

Japanese Media Tour – In June 2005, GAPP co-sponsored a media tour with the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute.  Four trade journalists and two consumer journalists visited Dutch Harbor, Alaska and reported on the Alaska pollock industry and Genuine Alaska Pollock.  Since the tour, over 40 stories featuring Genuine Alaska Pollock have been generated by the five publications.

Ichimasa Kamaboko Co., Ltd. – GAPP supported a promotion with kamaboko manufacturer, Ichimasa and Daiei, Japan’s third largest national supermarket chain.  The promotion included in-store demonstrations and promotions in 46 outlets, and the distribution of special point-of-purchase materials for the consumer.

Abezen Shoten Co., Ltd.  -- This kamaboko manufacturer is featuring the GAPP logo on its web site, to highlight its products containing Genuine Alaska Pollock surimi.  A special page has also been created to provide more information for consumers on Genuine Alaska Pollock and GAPP.
