To be sure you are getting Genuine Alaska Pollock®, with all of the quality, sustainability and traceability attributes that the fish is known for, you have to be a very smart buyer. In many markets around the world, “Alaska pollock” is a species name and does not denote point of origin. So, all seafood called “Alaska pollock” might not be from our sustainable fishery in Alaska and it might not be fully traceable.
To ensure you are getting genuine pollock from Alaska, purchase your primary products from a member of the Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP). On consumer products, look for the GAPP logo or the certification mark of the Marine Stewardship Council. Both logos require a chain of custody certification ensuring that the product is indeed Genuine Alaska Pollock. |
